The Mid-Year Energy Audit: Realigning with Your Mission

We’ve officially hit the halfway point of the year. How does your career feel?

In the world of Talent Development, June is often a season of frantic mid-year reviews and "sprinting" toward Q3 goals. But for many high-achieving professionals, this is also when the initial momentum of January begins to flicker (yes, we’re being generous here and your momentum may have fizzled months ago…but all the more reason to get it back!).

If you’re feeling more drained than driven, it’s likely not a lack of talent—it’s a lack of alignment.

To be truly well-positioned for the second half of the year, you don’t just need a strategy for your tasks; you need a strategy for your energy. Here is how to perform a mid-year audit to ensure you are still moving toward your personal mission.

1. The Energy vs. Effort Matrix

Not all work is created equal. Some tasks take a lot of effort but leave you feeling accomplished (High Effort/High Energy). Others take very little time but leave you feeling depleted (Low Effort/Low Energy).

  • The Audit: Look at your calendar from the last two weeks. Circle the projects that fueled you and underline the ones that drained you.

  • The Goal: How can we simplify your schedule to prioritize the "fuel" and look for opportunities to delegate or diminish the "drain"?

2. Check Your Internal Compass

Is your current workload serving the woman you want to be in 2027? Often, we say "yes" to projects because we can do them, not because they align with where we are going.

  • The Realignment: If your current role has drifted away from your core expertise, it’s time to refine your narrative. Remind your leadership (and yourself) what your primary mission is.

3. Clear the "Mental Clutter"

Burnout often stems from "open loops" AKA unfinished projects or unsaid conversations that take up mental real estate.

  • The Action: Identify 1 "open loop" this week. Whether it’s asking for that resource you need or finally finishing a stalled proposal, closing the loop creates the clarity you need to move forward.

4. Re-Establish Your Boundaries

Summer is the perfect time to reset how you show up. If you’ve become the "always-on" employee, your strategic thinking is likely suffering.

  • The Shift: Protect your deep-work hours. A well-positioned leader knows that rest isn't a reward for good work, but rather a prerequisite for it.

Ready to reclaim your momentum?

The second half of the year doesn't have to be a grind. It can be the season where you finally step into the light and share your expertise with confidence.
